Advocate for Social Justice Award 2018

We are proud to announce Rebecca Moyes as the 2018 Mary Zelinka Advocate for Social Justice awardee.  This is the highest honor that CARDV reserves for a member of the community who goes above and beyond in their field to serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence. As a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) at Sarah’s Place located in Samaritan Albany General Hospital, Rebecca’s role is to provide medical services to survivors who experience sexual assault. Through this role, she is able to provide information and resources for survivors of sexual violence while empowering them to make informed decisions. She has used her position and expertise to also focus on prevention by educating youth in our community about sexual assault. In partnership with CARDV, Rebecca has facilitated presentations to local area schools where she discusses sexual violence, consent, how to support a friend and access services. Thanks to Rebecca, students in our community know how to support someone experiencing violence, medical and advocacy resources available, and that violence is never the survivor’s fault. Now students can join us in changing the culture.

Congratulations!

Thank you so much for all of your hard work Rebecca!
